The Justice Center is North Carolina’s leading private, nonprofit anti-poverty organization. Founded in 1996 through the merger of two former Legal Services organizations and staffed by a diverse array of professionals, the Justice Center pursues its ambitious mission through four main strategies: 1. Research and analysis - Justice Center experts research and analyze public policies affecting low-income North Carolinians, identify strategies for improvement and publish their findings in an array of reports, newsletters and issue briefs. 3. A group that says: No War On The World, No Detentions and Round-Ups; No Police State Restrictions
Operation Bubbe is an effort to recruit 100 Jews from safe states unhappy with the Bush administration to travel to South Florida for election day and the preceding weekend to help Jewish retirees to the polls. The participants will be volunteering with America Coming Together. Once in Florida, volunteers will participate in a variety of activities, including up to four days of GOTV work in the Jewish community, an Operation Bubbe volunteer party/pep rally, and a victory celebration after the polls close on election day. All volunteers will be trained before deployment. Operation Bubbe will not provide transportation to Florida, but will provide any other reasonable assistance necessary to enable all volunteers to participate fully, including transportation and lodging in South Florida. We will focus on helping Jewish seniors in selected condo associations and retirement communities, primarily in Palm Beach County.

The Scrap Exchange (TSE) is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization that collects material donations from hundreds of individuals, businesses, industries, and municipal sources and distributes them through our Creative ReUse Center located in Durham, North Carolina. Further distribution of the materials occurs in the form of outreach events, workshops, and birthday parties. The materials collected represent a snapshot of local industry and businesses. Our donors receive a tax-deductible donation receipt for the fair market value, the arts community has access to hard to find, affordable materials, and TSE prevents reusable items from entering the waste stream.
Sierra Club Capital Group North Carolina
With nearly 3500 members in Cumberland, Franklin, Johnston, Wake, and Warren Counties, North Carolina, the Capital Group celebrated its twenty-second year in November 2004. Inspired by nature, we work together to protect our communities and the planet. The Capital Group is one of 13 local groups in the North Carolina Chapter representing more than 19,000 members statewide and 750,000 worldwide. Each month, the Capital Group invites a guest or member to discuss environmental issues of particular concern with us at our monthly program. Past discussions have included a broad range of topics--from "Canoeing the Green River" to "The Environmental Effects of the US War on Drugs in Columbia, South America."
